We do important work in partnership with Ministry of Health, Heath NZ | Te Whatu Ora, NZ Transport Agency | Waka Kotahi, the Department of Conservation and Auckland and Wellington Regional Councils. Supporting NZ's Covid Response
With the formidable task of supporting New Zealand’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Ministry of Health sought technology-based solutions to support a series of initiatives.
One key initiative was finding a secure and nimble digital solution to manage incoming requests for proof of vaccination.
Voco helped the Ministry create a Microsoft Power Apps practice and took on the role of product owner, as well as providing developers. The hybrid Ministry-Voco team created 14 applications over 15 months, including the vaccination letters application solution.
Digitising contracts
Waka Kotahi outsources most of its physical work, professional consultancy services, and enterprise goods and services, using different contract types. The agency had been using spreadsheets for contract registry and management, but with thousands of suppliers to manage it wanted to gain greater efficiency, visibility, and transparency of its contracts.
Voco helped streamline and improve the way contracts were recorded and managed by developing a contracts application that leveraged Microsoft’s Azure SQL and Power BI Platform. The application provided visibility across all Waka Kotahi contracts and ensured that the right information was captured and visible in the back-end.
Power apps for DoC
Nursery staff at DoC were using an old access database to manage seed inventory, dispatch, invoicing, and reporting.
The problem was that the performance of the database was so bad that it was almost unusable. It didn’t support their requirements, was out of support and therefore a risk, and they didn’t have anyone internally to provide support or enhance it.
Voco developed a small proof of concept to show what could be done on modern platforms. While the initial tool didn’t deliver as expected, we invested further in the project and continued development at a capped rate to fit their budget. The result is an application that’s about to go live and will be a massive improvement over their old system. Another great example why it’s important to deliver iteratively.
